Beauty Is Fleeting...But Why Not Enjoy Your Flowers a Little Longer?
10 Tips for Getting the Best Vase Life Possible for Fresh Flowers
Choose Locally Grown: Opt for flowers grown locally to support your community’s farmers and reduce your carbon footprint. Local flowers are often fresher and last longer because they haven’t traveled long distances.
Select a Diverse Bouquet: When choosing a bouquet, pick a mix of flowers with different vase lives. For example, while dahlias are beautiful, they have a short vase life. Complement them with heirloom chrysanthemums or other long-lasting flowers to enjoy your arrangement for a longer period.
Build a Relationship with Your Farmer: If a bouquet doesn’t meet your expectations, don’t hesitate to reach out. At Branches & Batches, customer happiness is our top priority, and we back our products with a satisfaction guarantee. Getting to know your farmer can enhance your experience and ensure you get the best quality flowers.
Use a Clean Vase: Always start with a clean vessel for your flowers. A sparkling clean vase and clean tools prevents bacteria buildup, which can shorten the lifespan of your flowers. If you wouldn’t drink from it, don’t use it for your flowers.
Store in a Cool, Low Light Area: Place your flowers in a cool, low-light location, away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat and light can cause flowers to wilt faster.
Keep Flowers Away from Fruit and Vegetables: Store your flowers away from fruit and vegetables. Produce emits ethylene gas, which can accelerate the aging of your flowers.
Trim Ends and Change Water Regularly: Trim the ends of your flowers every other day using CLEAN, SHARP and STERILIZED snips, which prevents smushed stems and spreading bacteria. Change the water to keep them fresh. Fresh cuts allow better water absorption, and clean water prevents bacterial growth.
Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Ensure no leaves are submerged in the water as they can rot and breed bacteria, shortening the lifespan of your flowers.
Remove Spent Flowers and Re-Arrange: As flowers start to wilt, remove them from the arrangement. This keeps the remaining flowers healthy and allows you to re-arrange for a balanced, fresh look.
Enjoy the blooms you have. While some flowers have shorter lifespans, their fleeting beauty is part of their charm. Savor each moment, knowing their brief presence is part of what makes them so special.
